Sensory Programme for visually impaired or totally blind people
Experience Lanzarote With All Four Senses!
The idea behind our special Sensory Programme for visually impaired holiday guests is simple: they too should be able to enjoy a uniquely adapted holiday here in Lanzarote.
And just like with every other person, we focus not on your disability, but on your ability.
That’s why my wonderful team member Sina and I have developed a set of activities and adventure experiences that are not only suitable for visually impaired visitors but also specifically engage their four other intact senses: smell, taste, touch, and hearing.
Here’s an overview of our
4 Senses Activities:

Saltworks (gustatory experience)
Las Salinas de Janubio, located on Lanzarote’s southwestern coast near Yaiza, offers a unique experience that's accessible to everyone. This historic saltworks, established in the late 19th century, uses traditional methods to produce salt from seawater evaporated in shallow ponds.
On a guided tour, you’ll get a detailed look at how the salt is made and have the chance to taste the local sea salt, experiencing its distinct flavour and texture. There’s also an optional beer tasting featuring a brew made with the island’s salt, adding a special touch to your visit. This sensory experience provides a rich insight into Lanzarote’s salt production and its culinary applications.
Duration: approx. 2 hours.
Animal Stable (Tactile)
Experience something special at our partner stable, just a short drive from your accommodation in Puerto del Carmen. We’ll provide you with a bag of mixed vegetables to feed the donkeys, camels, and horses, allowing you to get up close to these wonderful animals. Feel the soft, velvety fur of the camels, enjoy the gentle nuzzle of a friendly horse, and hear the donkeys’ distinctive braying as they beg for more food. Our experienced guides will be there to support and describe everything to you, ensuring a truly magical connection with the animals through touch and sound.
Duration: approx. 1 hour

Spa Day at the Thermal Baths (Auditory Proprioception)
Arrive at a tranquil spa and immerse yourself in a sensory experience designed with visually impaired guests in mind. Relax in the Roman bath, where calming music adds to the soothing atmosphere, or enjoy the active pool with its invigorating waterfalls, bubble chairs, and hydromassage beds. The sounds of the water and the variety of tactile sensations create a deeply relaxing and refreshing experience, making your visit truly revitalising.
Duration: 2 - 2.5 hours
Create Your Own Bath Salts or Essential Oils (Olfactory Tactile)
Join us at a local ecological soap production site for a hands-on workshop where you can make your own bath salts or essential oils, perfect for visually impaired visitors. Experience the textures and scents of natural ingredients such as olive oil and coconut oil. Our friendly guides provide clear instructions to ensure you can fully participate. This two-hour tactile workshop offers a sensory-rich experience, allowing you to create your own natural wellness products and take home a piece of Lanzarote's heritage, leaving your skin feeling soft and nourished.
Duration: 2 hours

Traditional Canarian Gofio Mill (Gustatory Tactile)
Step into a place where the past meets the future. Discover how gofio, a traditional Canarian flour made from roasted grains, was traditionally made and enjoy a guided tour exploring its rich history and customs.
For visually impaired visitors, this experience is especially enriching. Feel the textures and enjoy the aromas as you create gofio pellas (balls or dumplings made from gofio mixed with water, milk, honey or other ingredients) in a hands-on workshop. End your visit by tasting a smooth gofio cream and witnessing a "pella de gofio" demonstration.
Duration: 1 hour
Swim with Dolphins (Tactile)
Take part in an interactive dolphin swim that’s perfect for everyone, including those with visual impairments. In a specially designed lagoon, you'll get to touch and swim with these gentle dolphins, enjoying their smooth skin and playful nature.
This experience provides therapeutic benefits and rich sensory stimulation. Feel the soothing water and the dolphins’ gentle touch for a truly memorable and enriching encounter.
Duration: 30-40 minutes

Horse Riding (Tactile)
Enjoy a memorable horse riding experience through Lanzarote’s unique volcanic terrain and coastline. Feel the rhythm of the horse’s movement, the wind on your face, and the varied textures of the landscape. It’s also a wonderful way to connect and interact with these gentle animals. Our friendly guides ensure a safe and enjoyable journey, making this a truly immersive way to explore Lanzarote’s natural beauty.

Read about the experiences of some of our visually impaired holiday guests

Trevor is well over 70 and has a pronounced visual impairment. But that couldn’t stop him from getting on a jet ski and a SUP. He seemed less afraid of falling than his carer.

Maša, 28 years old from Slovenia, is completely blind and has cerebral palsy. She went horse riding and swam with dolphins. Both experiences were truly magical for her and everyone watching.
